Love Songs That Make Me Smile

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner I thought I’d share some of my favorite love songs.

Certain songs do such a wonderful job of capturing the emotions and feelings of being in love that I can’t help but get goosebumps no matter how many dozens or hundreds of times I have listened to the song.

What Another Year Can Do

A year ago, I loved my job. Now I simply like it but see it as a stepping stone to something greater. A year ago, I thought I was in a wonderful healthy relationship. I wasn’t but now I truly am. A year ago, I would rush the days in a search to find something exciting and better. I searched for something to give my life more meaning. I feel like I’ve found that meaning now and I can embrace everyday life even when it is monotonous and repetitive.

To Where Are We Rushing?

I think we often get caught up in what we expect of ourselves that we forget it is okay to stop and appreciate where we are at. We are racing around trying to reach new goals all the time. In the blink of an eye a week or month or maybe even years have passed. Do we remember what happened or were we too focused on the finish line?

Acceptance & Vulnerability

I haven’t written in months and it feels kind of weird. But I needed some time to myself. I didn’t (and still don’t) feel any need to share everything that has happened the past two months because all of life isn’t meant to be shared with social media. Some things can just be shared with close friends and family. They can be shared over a cup of hot coffee or a big glass of wine. They don’t need to be shared as a status on Facebook.

When Hate Comes Knocking

Outside my window I see a cloudless blue sky. Camden is laying on the carpet in a patch of sunshine to warm himself. I hear cars passing below on Shady Avenue. Just over a mile away is the Tree of Life synagogue.

Refugees Aren’t Here to Steal Jobs

Today, June 20th, is World Refugee Day. It is a day where, “we commemorate the strength, courage and perseverance of millions of refugees.” It is safe to say that most people reading this don’t know the definition of the word refugee. Honestly, six months ago I didn’t know the first thing about it. So let’s learn together.

So I "Graduated" at Work Today

Most people on social media don’t know that I no longer work at the Westin. I initially went part time and worked weekends and now I’m “on call” but haven’t worked there in weeks. I’m now working at a medical device company called Zoll Medical Corporation and I love it.

Why Getting a Haircut Is Empowering

For those that have known me for a long time, you’d recognize that I’ve always been a short hair person. However, over the past year I really let my hair grow. I let it get long. Not to-my-waist-wannabe-Rapunzel long but long for me. Well past my shoulders and trailing down my back. I did it because I wanted to see myself with luscious locks but also because a lot of guys in my life said to keep it long. They liked it better long. But now, I have chopped it and here is why.

Ed Sheeran & Eminem: A Fun Story

A lot of people know by now that my main man, Ed Sheeran, is featured on a track on Eminem’s newest album, Revival. The song is titled “River” and seems to be quite popular. Now, I assume some people were very confused to see that Ed was collaborating with Eminem. They seem to be great opposites, right? Ed Sheeran is a mid-twenties ballad crooning English-redhead with strong family values while Eminem is a 45-year-old world renown rapper who grew up in the roughest parts of Detroit with a history of drug abuse and a broken family. However, they actually have quite a cool connection that a normal person might not know about.

Bittersweet Independence

My best friend once told me that I am intimidating. I was shocked. I had to ask for clarification a few times because I don’t think I am intimidating at all. I’m awkward, easily entertained and fiercely loyal. I’m obsessed with Ed Sheeran and have an insatiable desire to travel. I had no idea why any of those traits made me intimidating. But then I thought about it and I have asked other friends if they understand the comment and agree and quite a few do. I guess the intimidation must come from being independent? That I will speak my mind within reason and that I am 100% myself without any qualms?

Why You Should Be Your Own Date - Do Things Solo

I made the choice a year and a half ago to move back to Pittsburgh. I don’t regret it one bit. Okay, maybe I regret slightly how much I pay for rent but that’s okay. I love the city and I like being out on my own. However, being away from family means that I only have friends to rely on for coffee, restaurant and movie dates. Or, I have myself. I have NO issues going to eat by myself or shopping or anything else and I wish more people would feel empowered to do the same. Here are my reasons why it is great to be your own date!

The Gay Marriage "Vote" in Australia

Did you know that gay marriage isn’t legal in Australia? Did you know that Australia is “voting” to legalize gay marriage on November 4th? Did you know that it isn’t an actual vote but an optional postal survey that will influence whether or not legislation is considered on gay marriage?

If you didn’t know all of that, now you do. Read below to learn more in simplified terms.
