New Year's Resolutions

New Year's Resolutions

So here we are. Three weeks into the new year. How many people made resolutions and how many have already failed them?

I’d guess a lot and a lot.

Here are the New Year’s Resolutions I made and my progress report so far:

Start a New Gym Habit

I told myself (and my friends) that my goal is to go to the gym just three times a week. I joined Planet Fitness on December 31st and so far I have stuck to my goal.

Now, that might not seem hard, but it has been. Not because I am terribly busy but because I have to break my habit of laziness, Netflix and naps. My mind and body were very accustom to getting home from work around 4pm and then taking a nap or watching Netflix for hours (too many hours). I’ve been working to change that so instead of crashing on the couch I go home, change into gym clothing and head right out the door. I got a cute 12-month calendar with kittens on it for my birthday and I mark each gym day with a star to hold myself accountable.

Also, please note that my goal is to start a gym habit. Yes, I would like to tone up and have less belly rolls so I can look and feel good in Europe this summer. However, my goal isn’t weight loss because I have had too many unhealthy relationships with losing weight and diets and food restrictions in the past. I just want to start one healthy habit that can hopefully lead to more.

No Beer in Fridge

That resolution makes it sound like I have a drinking problem but I actually don’t (which might surprise you based on some of my Snapchat stories). I just have a self control problem. I can’t keep chips in my house because I eat them all right away. Similarly, I can’t have beer in my fridge because then I want to drink one each night after work.

I was quite tempted to purchase a 6-pack on Friday so I could drink as I got ready for my work party but I actually refrained and I am pleasantly impressed. Go me! Let's see how long I can keep it up.

More Yelp Reviews

This is a random one but something I want to consciously work on. Obviously, I love to eat and drink. I have a mild obsession with happy hours (because I struggle paying full price) and I am always utilizing Yelp to find the best hot spots and secret gems. I figure that if I rely on Yelp to find good restaurants, others do as well, so I should share my opinions. Here is my profile so you can see what I have reviewed so far!

I wrote a lot of reviews about Australian places I visited but definitely need to up my Pittsburgh game. Also, Yelp has a cool program where if you register a credit card to your account and then use that card at certain restaurants you can get cash back. I’ve only utilized that once but it is still a cool perk!

New Year, New Me?

I said it in my last post but it is not New year, new Natalie. It is New year, better Natalie! How are resolutions going for everyone else?

Sadness. Confusion. Love.
