Intro: Reflections on Wedding Planning by an Anxious Bride

Intro: Reflections on Wedding Planning by an Anxious Bride

As I was planning my spring 2021 wedding, I wanted to blog about my experiences as a bride with anxiety. I wrote one post that received mixed reviews from certain people and I completely shut down. I actually had a panic attack over it while in Florida because writing is my way to process emotions and situations. I haven’t written since December 1st but now that I am reflecting on my wedding experiences, I want to write for my own memories and to maybe help a friend or two as they plan their own nuptials.

I think it is obvious to everyone that planning a wedding takes a lot of time, patience, and resources. Venues must be selected. Vendors need to be contacted for availability, pricing and compatibility. Budgets must be set and guest lists need to be created. Now, add a global pandemic to the mix and you have a whole new layer of stress and anxiety. Planning started fun but as I dove into it more and more, the stress built up. Thankfully, Sahil and I had amazing wedding planners who helped guide us but wow, planning during Covid was terrible.

To get myself back into writing, I plan to do a few short posts about my experiences and recommendations such as:

  • The most important vendors to lock down ASAP (looking at you, Wanderlust and Kingfly Spirits!)

  • Embracing your body (#SweatingfortheWedding is outdated)

  • Guest list priorities (if you and your parents haven’t talked to someone in five years, they don’t need an invitation especially if you’ve cut back due to Covid restrictions)

  • How to save a little money (Buy a cheap Etsy template and print your own menus, etc.)

  • Support system (you need friends who will let you vent and offer advice)

  • Fusion wedding ideas (it was hard to find Indian/Western inspiration online)

  • Pittsburgh vendor roundup (we worked with AMAZING small businesses that need to be recognized)
