Time to Focus on the Positives
I find myself complaining too much. Or focusing on the negative too much. The daily exchange at work of, “Good morning! How are you? I’m well but a bit tired. How are you?” just seems a bit dull. Everyone does it because nearly everyone is tired. So, why do I need to share that with people all the time?
I finished my 15-day stretch of work between 3 jobs and while I’m currently working 6 day weeks it could be worse. Back in January I was at a point where I was seriously considering quitting my hotel job and moving back to Michigan because I was so overwhelmed, disheartened and burnt out. But just a few months later, everything has changed. I guess the saying is true that when things seem to be falling apart they might actually be falling into place.
I decided it is time to consciously be more positive and appreciative of what I have so what better way to do that than through writing, right?
In no particular order of importance, here are things in my life that I am grateful for and that I am trying to focus on more often:
- I have tickets to three Ed Sheeran concerts this year.
- My cat is amazing.
- Europe trip planned for June.
- Cute af koala tattoo on my arm.
- My health and my family’s health.
- Friendships that span many miles, states, countries and continents.
- I have a computer to blog on.
- A guy that never misses the chance to tell me I’m beautiful.
- Tickets for Taylor Swift in Detroit.
- A reliable Rav4 with a personalized license plate.
- Cozy blankets.
- Pad thai and nearly any kind of dessert.
- A new job with a better schedule and better pay.
- Multiple pairs of Dr Martens.
- Weekend trip to DC for a much needed friend reunion.
- Really comfy dresses from LOFT.
- My degrees from Pitt.
- Studying abroad for three months in London.
- Work that I find engaging, interesting and rewarding.
- Bitmojis.
- Memories of scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef.
- That I’ve never had to live through war.
- Friends that are real with me.
- IPAs, black coffee and red wine.
- That my anxiety comes in much shorter and infrequent waves.
- How I smile whenever and wherever I hear Ed Sheeran playing.
- Pretty great naturally curly hair.
- Someone that makes me want to be a better person simply by existing.
- Cool custom glasses.
- The ability to afford cool custom glasses.
- A bed to call my own in Pittsburgh and Plymouth.
- Super long Snapchat streaks (823 days and counting…)
- The scents of spring.
- Many, many other things.
It might be cliche to suggest focusing on positive things instead of negatives but I think today's world could do with a bit more positivity!
