Self Care Night
I have been out of sorts for a little over a week. Anxious. Worried. Grumpy. Sad. There were many things factoring into it while at the same time nothing was a factor. I’ve said it before but sometimes I just get off for a while without any real warning or reason.
To combat that, I forced myself to have a Self Care Night last week. Normally, when I get home from work I quickly find myself in pajamas on the couch. I love blankets so after a stressful day of work I will cuddle in their comfort and click on the latest British crime series I can find on Netflix. However, for my Self Care Night I decided that Netflix wouldn’t be the answer but rather essential oils, a warm shower, healthy dinner and a few other things (disclaimer: I had every intention of painting my nails but that got pushed back to another night).
Warm Shower with Shower Bomb
I know the whole world is aware of bath bombs but what about shower bombs? Rinse Bath & Body Co. is a brand I found during my Disney College Program and I still love it. All products are produced in small batches in Monroe, Georgia, and they all smell amazing. Shower bombs are similar to bath bombs in that they effervesce and fizz but that’s where the similarities end (in my opinion). The Rinse shower bombs are infused with essential oils that diffuse fragrances designed to alleviate migraines and other ailments. The bomb I used for Self Care Night was called Thievery and it is supposed to help with cold and flu symptoms. I love Thievery so much that I also have a roll-on container of the oils that I use when I travel or feel a cold coming.
Face Mask
Now, I am not at all a face mask person. I really am not even a skin care person but I enjoy taking care of myself (sometimes). The mask I used for Self Care Night was Natural Sense Australia Facial Mud Mask. Wanna know how I decided on buying it? It was a week before I left for Australia and I was at Marshalls and TJ Maxx looking for travel bags to pack my chargers and such in (which I found and wrote about). While perusing displays I found the Natural Sense mask and the silver packaging boasted about being “Made in Australia” so the sucker I am naturally bought the mask.
Spinach Salad
Dinner was a fresh spinach salad topped with crumbled feta, sliced almonds and Wish-Bone Roasted Garlic Citrus Avocado Oil dressing. I also had two pepperjack cheese squares and a honeycrisp apple. Dinner is normally rather unhealthy so I figured I would take care of myself and get some fruit, veggies and protein into my system.
Fortnum & Mason Hot Tea
When I studied abroad in London, I fell in love with Fortnum & Mason's Royal Blend tea. Fun fact and tangent...Fortnum & Mason is the official grocer of the Queen and that is really cool. Anyway, I brought some home with me but quickly finished it. Thankfully, I was back in England seven months later and purchased more. I'm a hoarder of my favorite things (gift cards, tea, coffee, etc.) so I hadn't actually opened my new container until Self Care Night. It was a delicious addition and a good evening drink. I've fallen into the habit of having a beer after work when I'm watching Netflix because I <3 beer but it has no value. It is empty calories. So I've been working to switch to tea the whole month of November.
Hair and T. Swift
I am lazy in many aspects and generally let my hair air dry. I spritz some John Frieda Frizz Ease Dream Curls spray in it and call it a day. Sometimes I love how it looks but other times it ends up frizzy and fluffy. To combat that, I will very occasionally (aka once a month) blow dry and straighten my hair. For Self Care Night, I decided to jam to T. Swift’s new reputation album and do my hair with my trusty Paul Mitchell flat iron. I enjoyed it because of the jams, how silky my hair felt and for the compliments I received from coworkers the next day!
Blogging
I started this post but didn’t finish it until a week later. I got too tired. But it was still nice to write for a short while since I've been slacking and uninspired.
doTERRA Diffuser
I am happy to have quite a few friends that also appreciate essential oils and diffusers. For my Self Care Night, I mixed doTERRA’s On Guard Protective Blend (supports healthy immune function) and Melaleuca (Tea Tree). As I was blogging, I used my diffuser and only listened to the gentle rainfall-esque sounds it made as it gently splashed the water around. I didn’t want Netflix. I didn’t listen to music. I just sat and wrote and enjoyed the diffuser.
Camden
Wouldn’t be a night in my life without some Camden cuddles. As I have written before, I love having a cat just to have another living thing around. Camden is so darn cute, cuddly, weird and just generally great. I ended the night by laying on my couch with Camden on my chest. Perfect end.
