One Week Before London, I went to an Ed Sheeran Concert
So, if you happen to follow me on any social media platform you will know that I went to Pittsburgh on Tuesday for Ed Sheeran’s show at CONSOL Energy Center. It was the best night ever. Easily.
Back on February 23rd, I bought my pre-sale Ed ticket. I got my fan code from his website, I found a friend to join me at the show (you rock, Julie), and tickets were purchased! We had good seats in the 200-level. Definitely worth the $70 we spent. However, we did not sit in those seats. We got an UPGRADE! On Monday night, I was searching Ed Sheeran on Twitter to see if anyone was posting about how fun the concert was. I didn’t find what I set out for but I did find a few tweets by Ben Kweller, Ed’s opening act for some of his US dates. Ben needed people in Pittsburgh to be a part of a secret street team. We just needed to hand out free CDs at the end of the concert. In exchange, we got to meet Ben, we got a free CD, a free bag and a free ticket to the show. I did not know where the free ticket would be before I signed up to be a part of the Wolfpack.
Anyway, Tuesday rolls around. Julie and I drive to Pittsburgh. We obviously jam to Ed the whole time. We drink caffeinated beverages (black iced coffee for me. Some variation of chai for Julie). And we had a dandy time. We get to my apartment and hang out with Heidi. We explain how we will have two extra tickets to the show now and that Heidi can have the worst of the seats (sounds mean but it is isn’t because any free tickets to an Ed show are bound to be divine). Then, we head to dinner downtown by CONSOL. We walk into the restaurant and sit down at our table. Then, “Thinking Out Loud” starts playing and I see the Ed-themed cocktail list. Here ensues Cry #1. The waitress had to bring me some napkins so that I could wipe my tears. #noshame
After dinner (which, I could hardly enjoy due to too many emotions), Julie and I went and met Ben. He was a cool guy and played a really good set! Then, we headed into CONSOL. Our tickets were not yet at will call so I bought some merchandise. A concert shirt, bracelet and program for me. A shirt and shorts to take home for Les. Then we went back to will call and our tickets were there. Section 122 Row F Seat 1. I couldn’t immediately place where they were located because I’m not very familiar with CONSOL. Boo Penguins.Go Wings.
Cry #2 came when I sat on the floor and started looking through my program. It is beautiful.
Cry #3 came when I went to my seat. Julie and I found section 122. We walked down. And down. And down. And down. Row F. That’s just SIX rows from the stage. Julie tells me that people were staring because of how much I cried. It was really quite overwhelming. I had planned on seeing the concert from the 200-level. Not from six rows away. My happiness was beyond words. Thanks, Ben!
Cry #4 came when Ed jogged up the stairs onto the stage. He opened with “I’m A Mess.” I. Was. A. Mess. Don’t let the smile fool you! I was happy…but super emotional. No idea how many cries came next. I cried throughout “Photograph” but got a wonderful video of the entire song. I also got full videos of “I See Fire” and “Give Me Love”. Ed Sheeran live is an experience! The fact that he entire concert consisted of Ed, his acoustic guitar, two microphones and a loop station is incredible. His talent is just…wow. If you ever have the chance to go to an Ed Sheeran concert, you must go! I hope to see him in Dublin! I’m just waiting to hear back from Croke Park to see if the pitch standing tickets require ticket holders to stand in a certain portion of the pitch or if it is all on a first come, first serve basis! Once that is all figured out I’ll be back on StubHubUK. If anyone wins the lotto and wants to chip into some Ed tickets for me, I wouldn’t be opposed. 😉 I’d take tickets to London and Dublin shows.
